George Manta

George grew up listening to rock, drawing in notebooks with striped sheets, in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Influenced by surfing, bodyboarding, skateboarding, and beach summer vibes, hypnotized and obsessed by the posters hanging in his room with 80´s style illustrations, trying to imagine how and who would make those illustrations. A mystery and at the same time a dream of childhood to be one of those artists. He studied at the Visual Arts School in Mar del Plata, and didn't finish his career. He never liked studying or learning things in the traditional way, or with the classic educational systems. He is quite a self-taught and multifaceted artist who believes in self-education since there were no youtube tutorials for everything. George founded his own design studio in 2007. He does designs, illustrations, screen printing, photography, plays music in Mandiboola and Synthesis Botanica, and draws and tattooes his own designs. But currently, his career as an artist is focused on posters and mostly screen printed gig posters. He prefers the analog, in all branches of art and life. And despite the fact that he designs most work on a computer, always the beginning (in pencil) and final (inks) are handmade. George uses a wacom tablet to draw in digital. He likes to draw his own typefaces whenever the opportunity is given, and he also makes them by hand. He uses very few pre-designed types. He really enjoys making portraits of musicians and personalities that star in his posters, especially if he knows them and likes what they do. George has worked for agencies and brands such as Adidas, Nike, Vans, Disney, Marvel, Indie Folks, B-Ferraz, Fernet Branca, Rolling Stone Magazine, Inrockuptibles, The Highline New York, Popload Festival, Music Wins Festival, Lollapalooza, Unlock, Highlights Festival, Trimarchi, among others. And for artists like Tame Impala, Foals, Cat Power, Devendra Banhart, Mac Demarco, Temples, Metronomy, Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett, The XX, Thurston Moore, Jesus And Mary Chain, Yo La Tengo, Slowdive, DIIV, Beach Fossils, The Weeknd, Ratatat, Pond, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Crystal Castles, Alvvays, Erlend Oye, Lee Scratch Perry, Sky Ferreira, Spiritualized, and many more…
